The Lord of the Rings:
|
The final chapter of this epic franchise was by far the best one, and that really says something when the other two films are just as incredible. The Return of the King is a tapestry of nonstop adventure and drama that ended one of the greatest stories ever told. This epic conclusion was the perfect cap on an already incredible story.
This film earned every Oscar it received, making it the first threequel to ever win Best Picture. I wish it had also gotten some acting noms, as Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, and Viggo Mortensen all deserved recognition. The rest of the cast was great as well, but they were the overall standouts. The Lord of the Rings is the story that all other fantasy epics (and now every film franchise) are measured against and Tolkien's epic masterpiece has been dutifully and faithfully adapted into the most incredible film franchise of our generation thanks to Peter Jackson. |
What more can be said that hasn't already been covered on this final installment in the epic The Lord of the Rings trilogy? The Return of the King serves as a phenomenal, and fitting, conclusion to one of the most epic film franchises in years. By the time this film is over, you will be left in tears.
The whole cast gives it their all for the third time in a row. Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis, and the rest all do a phenomenal job to their respective characters. Each character gets a fitting conclusion by the end of this film. The Return of the King also features one of my favorite moments in the entire franchise; where Faramir rides with his soldiers to certain doom to the tune of a song that Pippin sings. It is both beautiful and haunting. This is a perfect conclusion to one of the most epic, and best, fantasy franchises around. Peter Jackson has done an incredible job of bringing Tolkien's work to life. An incredible film franchise that has a lasting legacy in film history. |
