The Lego Movie 2:
|
Despite a Ninjago movie that nobody talks about, the Lego film franchise has produced quality film after quality film. It took a few years for me to finally check out The Lego Movie 2, but it's just as good as the first one, if not better in some ways. The story is engaging, hilarious, creative, and loaded with meta jokes for kids and adults alike. The film takes aim at Chris Pratt's entire career, from Parks and Rec to Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy. Beneath all the parody, though, is a heartfelt family film with a good lesson about love, family, and being true to yourself.
It's been five years since Emmett (Pratt) and his friends used their master builder skills to defeat the evil Lord Business and save Bricksburg. In that time, Bricksburg was invaded by evil aliens from Planet Duplo, who destroyed almost everything. But Emmett never lost his optimism, not even when those aliens abduct Lucy (Banks) and his friends. Emmett ventures alone into the void of space, where he runs into the impossibly awesome Rex Dangervest (also Pratt), a space cowboy with a dark secret. As always with these films, the animation is impeccable and the constant meta jokes make for great moments of snickering. I'm continuously impressed with these movies. They're hilarious, entertaining, genuine, and above all, creative as hell. The voice talent always delivers, particularly Will Arnett as Batman, and they always bring me back to my childhood playing with Legos. I can't wait for a third film, and I really hope they bring the Bionicles into it. Remember those? |
