Star Wars Episode III:
|
Revenge of the Sith was easily the best of the prequels. Darth Vader's fall from grace is mesmerizing and witnessing the death of the Jedi is heartbreaking. While Hayden Christensen is still a bad actor, he does try a little bit harder in this film. Thankfully, his presence doesn't kill this one.
I was surprised at how dramatic Revenge of the Sith was. There were moments that were emotionally devastating, such as when Vader murders a group of Jedi children or when the Clones hunt down and destroy every Jedi across the galaxy. The film also upped the action. There are so many more action sequences in this film than the first two prequels combined. Finally, I have to give praise to Ian McDiarmid, who finally got to play the vicious Emperor we all know and love to hate. His performance in this film was brilliant and was one of the main reasons Revenge of the Sith is regarded as one of the best Star Wars films. |
For the most part, Revenge of the Sith is the best of the prequel trilogy. While it still suffers from Hayden Christensen's performance and overabundance of CGI, it also offers the most action and some of the series darkest moments. So, while not the best the series has to offer, it's at least the most watchable of the prequel trilogy.
Revenge of the Sith proves to be the most dramatic entry due to the final moments, of which involve Anakin slaughtering a group of Jedi children and the Jedi being murdered one by one across the galaxy. This was a devastating way to show the fall of the Jedi and the rise of the Sith. Even with these scenes, there were just as many involving horribly written romance and trade negotiations. The film also features the most action scenes than the last two films, providing for a more enjoyable viewing experience. The only thing bringing them down is Lucas's continued overuse of CGI. And the film still suffers from Hayden Christensen's performance, who's bad delivery of lines is cringe-inducing. While Revenge of the Sith is still not a great movie, it's really the only enjoyable entry of the prequel trilogy. With an increase in action, interesting characters, and the series darkest ending, the third entry is the best of this particular trilogy. It still has some lingering issues from previous entries, but I would watch this one one over the other two any day. |
