Star Wars Episode IV:
|
What more can be said about the iconic phenomenon that is Star Wars? It's arguably the greatest sci-fi film franchise ever made and is one of the most important movies in film history. Without Star Wars, it's likely there would never have been many of the modern classics we all know and love.
This first film in the epic franchise gave us some of the most iconic film characters of all time, such as Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, and countless others. The visual effects still hold up after all this time, proving the longevity of practical effects over unnecessary CGI. I admire the continued influence of Star Wars. Ever since its release, Star Wars has inspired hundreds of sci-fi writers and given fans something to enjoy time and time again. |
Where to begin on one of the most classic, iconic film series of all time? A New Hope was a small movie that George Lucas was sure was destined to fail at the box office. Instead, it became a global phenomenom, spawning an expansive universe and a rabid fanbase. The love for Star Wars hasn't died either, with younger generations of fans being introduced to the series by their parents and falling in love with it. Just to think, all that started with this great movie.
The first film introduces the character of Luke Skywalker, who sets out on a mission to save Princess Leia from the evil clutches of Darth Vader. He is helped in his travels by smuggler Han Solo and former Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi. These iconic characters are brought to life by Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Alec Guinness. As for Darth Vader, he is famously voiced by James Earl Jones. The actors all do a wonderful job and give us characters that have lived on long since the movie originally released. The film also holds up astoundingly well thanks to the decision to use practical effects, proving how much better practical is over an overabundance of CGI. A New Hope is a timeless film that introduced the world to some of cinema's most iconic characters and worlds. It has inspired many sic-fi writers since its release and given something for fans to enjoy countless times. And all of this begins in a galaxy far, far away. |
