Night at the Museum:
|
The Night at the Museum franchise has never been particularly high-regarded, but they were all successful enough to warrant sequels. I can't imagine why they kept getting poor reviews, as all three are very entertaining and sport fantastic casts. Battle of the Smithsonian is a great example. This movie has guest appearances from Jon Bernthal, Christopher Guest, Bill Hader, Eugene Levy, and it stars Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart, who steals the show. The film is pure family fun from beginning to end. What more could people want?
Larry (Stiller) has left the museum and founded his own company of goofy products. When he learns that the museum exhibits are going into storage in the Federal Archives, he's a bit upset. But when Jedediah (Wilson) calls him and says they're being attacked by the evil pharaoh Kahmunrah (Azaria), Larry heads to the Smithsonian to save them. He runs into Amelia Earhart after the tablet awakens the entire Smithsonian, a network of museums in Washington D.C. What follows is a wild romp through the various museums, which are all in chaos due to everything coming to life. There are some hilarious cameos from Jonah Hill, Clint Howard, the Jonas Brothers, and so many more. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian doesn't try to break new ground. It adds to the character development in the franchise, but I wish it had more Robin Williams (though the bit with the Teddy bust was comedy gold). Still, it's a thoroughly entertaining movie that celebrates the giants of history in the same vein as the first and third films. There's just something sweet about this franchise I can't help but enjoy. |
