My personal favorite of the franchise. The casting of Sean Connery as Indy Senior was brilliant and he and Ford have excellent chemistry. Last Crusade is a great return to the series's roots (not that Temple of Doom wasn't good in its own way).
With the artifact being the Holy Grail, the franchise once again has an overarching theme of faith. At the heart of the Indiana Jones franchise, the story has been about Indy overcoming his own lack of faith. Last Crusade accomplishes this perfectly by having Indy quest for the Grail with his father, the one man he could never impress. Together, the two make this movie the best in the franchise. I love that this one had Brody and Sallah return, as well as the reappearance of the villainous Nazis. It feels much more like a sequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark than to Temple of Doom and it's because of this that this film flourishes. |
The Indiana Jones franchise delivers another excellent installment that is a fun, globe-trotting adventure on par with the original film. While I highly enjoyed Temple of Doom, Last Crusade makes a very fitting return to the series's roots. It is also hugely helped by the presence of Sean Connery, an actor that is always fun to watch.
The franchise returns to a more direct theme of faith, with Indy having to rescue his father while searching for the Holy Grail. This helps make Last Crusade feel like a more direct sequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was also nice to see the return of Marcus Brody and Sallah, with Brody joining in on the action this time around. As stated above, Sean Connery is a welcome addition to the cast as Indy Senior. He shares a lot of chemistry with Harrison Ford and the two seem to be having a lot of fun together. They really help make this movie even more enjoyable than it already is. Last Crusade is a fun return to what makes the series so great. A globe-trotting adventure with a wise cracking Indy and villainous Nazis. Mixed that with the always reliable Sean Connery and you got one of the best entries in the franchise. |
