Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is yet another highly entertaining entry in one of the greatest franchises of all time. The visual effects in this one are frighteningly good and have stood the test of time, not to mention grown increasingly more grotesque.
The villains of this film are some of the scariest. The evil Thuggee Cult and their psychotic high priest Mola Ram are arguably the best enemies Indiana Jones has ever faced. They are the epitome of everything he fights against and it's because of them that this movie succeeds. What almost ruined it, however, is Kate Capshaw's increasingly annoying performance as Willie Scott, a female lead who pales in comparison to Karen Allen's Marion Ravenwood. Willie is useless and does nothing but complain and scream the entire run of the movie. If it wasn't for Short Round, Jones would be practically fighting the Thuggee alone. While it's not as good as Raiders, Temple of Doom is a solid entry and a very enjoyable movie. |
Temple of Doom is a highly entertaining and solid follow-up to Raiders of the Lost Ark. While not as good as the previous film, it still provides a good time. Be warned, though, this entry is by far the darkest of any of the films, with several generally terrifying scenes.
Not only is the plot and tone darker than the previous film, the villains are also more scary. The Thuggee Cult are extremely creepy and are led by one of the more psychotic villains in Indiana's Jones's films, Mola Ram. They are definitely the type of villains that the audience wants Jones to defeat. The inclusion of Short Round as Jones's sidekick was great, he brought a much needed levity to the film and proved to be helpful on multiple occasions. The same can't be said for the film's one main problem, Willie Scott. Unlike Marion Ravenwood from the first film, Scott is annoying and completely useless. She spends the entire time complaining and screaming at everything. Aside from the character of Willie Scott bringing this film down a little, Temple of Doom still proves to be a good time. Harrison Ford continues to be a joy to watch in the lead role and Short Round is fun to watch. Definitely another solid entry in this hugely popular franchise. |
