Halloween 4: The Return
|
The events of Halloween III left a bad taste in the mouths of many fans. Granted, a lot of fans do love that movie for their own reasons these days, but back in the day it was nearly the stake in the Halloween franchise's heart. In 1988, the Boogeyman came back to Haddonfield, and while the movie isn't nearly as memorable as the first or even the second film, it's not a trainwreck, which surprised me. Donald Pleasence is a great anchor to the franchise's better days, and he's still delivering a solid performance as a battle-worn Dr. Loomis.
Ten years after Laurie took down Michael in the hospital, Michael, who has been comatose ever since, awakens on Halloween night to fuck Haddonfield up yet again. This time, since Jamie Lee Curtis wisely said no to a return as Laurie, he's after her daughter Jamie (Harris) because reasons. Michael seems to be able to sniff out his relatives so he can snuff out his relatives. The mask looks a bit off, but that's because Nick Castle from the first film had the OG mask stuffed under his mattress like an old sweatshirt. So, somehow replicating Shatner's face proved difficult, and we ended up with the Dollar Tree version. I think Halloween 4 is a natural decline from the second film, but still worth including in your marathon. The characters are decent enough, particularly the redneck good ol' boys who try to take on Michael and end up shooting a random passerby with zero consequences. As always, at the very least, it's a Halloween film. You get the music, you get the Loomis, and above all, you get the Michael. |
