Ghostbusters 2 (1989)Directed by Ivan Reitman
Written by Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd Starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, Annie Potts, Peter MacNicol, Max von Sydow Sequel to 1984's Ghostbusters |
While not as good as the first one, I still thoroughly enjoyed this sequel. It has all the charm of the first film as well as a creepy new bad guy in Vigo the Carpathian. It is also significantly scarier than the first film, with the slime monsters and Vigo's transformation into a demonic creature. Still, it definitely feels like a Ghostbusters movie and will make you laugh from beginning to end.

While Ghostbusters II may not live completely up to the first film, it's still a fun movie that remembers what made it so entertaining in the first place. The cast hasn't missed a beat, the humor is just as funny, and the villain is definitely creepier. All in all, it showed that the franchise still had some stories left to tell.
The entire main cast from the original return for this second bout of ghost busting and they've never been better. Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, Hudson still have great chemistry together, bouncing jokes off each other like no others. Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis also make welcome returns to this installment. As for the villain, Vigo the Carpathian is significantly creepier than Gozer from the original. While I don't know if I was entirely sold on people's negative emotions making him stronger, the villain himself was quite intimidating. I also wish the filmmakers had stuck with the original theme song, as the rap version just doesn't feel right. Even though Ghostbusters II has developed a pretty bad rap, I still mostly enjoyed this movie. It may not be as good as the original, but it's still a solid continuation of this franchise. The Ghostbusters are definitely not going anywhere. |
