X is yet another intense, unique horror flick from Ti West. This time, it's a freaky mixture of Texas Chainsaw and Boogie Nights, resulting in an unforgettable film that shows the worst case scenario for repressed sexuality. With a host of solid performances, a surprising amount of comedy, and some truly insane gory kills, X is shaping up to be one of A24's best creative gambles, as well as one of 2022's best horror films.

It's 1979. Free love runs rampant across the U.S. of A. and Wayne (Henderson) prides himself for having an eye for talent. He wants to be a porno production king, and he's recruited some sexy talent to help him do it. But they need a place to film, and they wind up renting a cabin from a reclusive elderly couple. Of course, once the couple realizes they've got pornstars on their property, all hell breaks loose as the young fight the old with their lives hanging in the balance. It does take a while for the film to shift from period drama to horror, but once it makes that shift, the craziness does not stop. I'm talking nails in feet, shattered hands, and fucking gators. It's a wild ride.

Before the film turns horror, it's actually a pretty decent drama about taking what we want in life, and the consequences of letting life pass you by. There are times when you feel sorry for the villains because all they really want is another chance to live life their own way instead of being trapped in their choices thus far. Then, of course, they start slaughtering hot young people, because ultimately, this is a horror movie. And a pretty good one.
