Alright, I’ve sat through plenty of films which have been extremely painful to get through. But very rarely have I sat through an entire series where that has happened. But here we are with the Wrong Turn franchise. One which somehow peaked at its second installment and then quickly, and dramatically, dipped in quality. It’s not like this can be applied to every low budget horror franchise out there. I’ve seen plenty where the small budget, limited areas to shoot, and relative inexperienced actors are perfectly utilized by the people in charge to give us something special. This installment, though, decides to throw as much nudity and sex at the screen as it can. Problem is, I wanted to see the next installment in an ongoing horror franchise, not a porn.
Okay, where to begin? I know. So, in the second installment, there were various moments where the incest part of this family of cannibals was explored. Thanks to the tone and it not being a major focus, it was an actually sickly interesting part of the film. This film, though, goes all in on the incest. To the point where you have to wonder if there is a weird fetish thing going on here. It is genuinely a weird choice made by the filmmakers which, in turn, makes for a slightly uncomfortable viewing experience. For example, there is a character who spends the entire film whispering everything she says and visibly shakes because she is so horny to get it on with her brother. I’m not kidding. As for our long-time cannibal killer trio, they are relegated to secondary status. They, along with the kills, are extraordinarily lackluster. Instead, I get an overabundance of nudity and sex scenes. Wrong Turn 6 is a terrible horror film. It’s also a terrible wannabe porn. Sadly, and I can’t believe I’m admitting to the latter type of film here, I’ve seen better in both categories. I didn’t need this weird fetish movie for my viewing pleasure. I wanted it to be a good horror film. The recently released reboot better redeem this franchise. It badly needs it. |
