I never understood why this movie got all the hate it received back in 2004. While it may not be a horror film, it's still a fun action/adventure flick with a solid cast and is filled to the brim with nostalgia. Van Helsing was Universal's first attempt to cash in on the classic movie monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man.
Though it disappointed moviegoers who were expecting a horror flick, there's no reason why it can't still be enjoyed. Hugh Jackman is great as the lead, and Kate Beckinsale does a solid job as well. Richard Roxburgh is not the definitive Dracula, but he does grow on you. It's neat to see the classic monsters all in one film for the first time in almost 60 years, and for that, this movie will always be one of my favorites. |
Ok, let's just say this film isn’t that great BUT this film is a blast to watch. Hugh Jackman always makes a film fun and interesting to watch. Yes, this film has horrible special effects, yes, the story doesn’t make much sense BUT it has really interesting characters. Whenever I think about how not so great this film all I have to say to myself is “Hey it's better than Twilight.”
