Very few films have the power to move me, but The Imitation Game invoked emotion from me that I haven't felt from a movie in a long time. Benedict Cumberbatch gave the performance of his career with his portrayal of WWII codebreaker Alan Turing, whose accomplishments have been a complete secret up until 2013.
Cumberbatch played Turing with such raw humanity, making it one of the few performances of the year that actually felt real. I sincerely hope his performance gets recognized. I also felt that Keira Knightley and Mark Strong gave fantastic performances, forming a solid supporting cast. I also was unbelievably moved by Alexandre Desplat's incredible score that was ultimately the clincher that brought tears to my eyes. Overall, I think The Imitation Game is one of, if not the, best films of the year and will definitely resonate with any audience. |
