In England, football is extremely important. Over time, it has become a religion for the supporters of each club. Tom Hooper is a big voice for British culture and I'm glad he added sport to his resume. The Damned United focuses on Brian Clough and his tenure with Leeds United in 1974. Before Leeds, Clough was the manager of Derby County and always had a beef with the manager of Leeds, Don Revie. Once Revie took over the England national squad, it was time for Clough to prove that he was the best manager in England.
Even if you don’t like the sport at all, it’s worth a watch to see Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall light up the screen as football masterminds, Clough and Peter Taylor. If you are a fan, then it’s going to become an instant classic in your mind. Clough vs Revie will always be a part of sports history forever, and this film portrays their stories beautifully. |
