I will never understand why The Da Vinci Code was almost universally panned. Nearly every critic hated this movie, for reasons that are a mystery to me. It is a wonderful mystery film with a talented cast and a great adaptation of Dan Brown's entertaining novel. This film dares to challenge the status quo of the Catholic Church and raises some interesting points about the life and death of Jesus Christ.
While I know that most of the "information" in this movie is 100% fabricated, it's still entertaining to watch Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou uncover it. Even if it isn't true, the mystery of the Holy Grail is still layered in fact. That's what makes this film so interesting. It presents theories for you to draw your own conclusions. Not to mention the haunting yet triumphant score by Hans Zimmer. I adore this film because I love treasure hunt movies. There aren't many of them but The Da Vinci Code is one of the best. You don't have to be a Christian to appreciate it, nor do you have to be an atheist to dispute it. All I can tell you is that it's a good movie and it's fun to try to unravel the mystery yourself. |
