The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)Directed by Kevin Reynolds

This movie is a magnificent adaptation of Alexandre Dumas's classic novel. It's one of my favorite films and has remained one of the best adaptations of a novel ever made. Jim Caviezel brilliantly portrays Edmond Dantes in a believable transformation from naive young man to stone-hearted vengeful count.
Guy Pearce plays the vile, horrible Fernand Mondego, giving one of the best performances of his career and providing the audience with a great villain. The wonderful score by Ed Shearmur fits the tone of the story so well, giving us a soundtrack to the classic tale of revenge that has been retold again and again, but never this good. |
