The Chronicles of Riddick (2004)Written and Directed by David Twohy

This follow-up to 2000's epic Pitch Black was disappointing on so many levels. Mostly, it was the bloated plot and lack of original story. The first installment as so simple, yet effective. It worked as both an action and horror flick. This film was very difficult to understand and having watched it, I could not tell you what it was about. Overall, I'd say it was the weakest entry in an otherwise formidable franchise.

The second film in the Riddick franchise proves to be, mainly, a colossal disappointment. While the first film featured a simple, yet effective, plot; this one was bigger, and waaay, less effective. The story was extraordinarily bloated and cliche.
There were also some stylized editing decisions that really just didn't work. Finally, don't make a R-rated franchise PG-13. I will say that the movie does feature some cool action moments and Vin Diesel holds the film together, once again embodying Riddick. By far, the weakest one in the franchise. |
