It's been a long time since I was this surprised at the quality of a movie. After hearing countless poor reviews about this film, I was shocked to see that it was actually really good. Terminator Genisys is one of the best sequels in the franchise and completely overshadows the previous two entries.
Of course, most of this is due to the long-awaited return of Arnold Schwarzenegger and his chemistry with the rest of the cast. Every actor in this film had big shoes to fill, particularly Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, and Jai Courtney. While the two Clarkes performed admirably, I was pleasantly surprised at Jai Courtney's screen presence. He's never really been an actor I particularly enjoyed but his performance as Kyle Reese was fun and believable. I liked how the various elements of Terminator and Terminator 2 were manipulated to form an original and complex story that fit snugly into the Terminator mythology. We got to see how Skynet was truly conceived as well as the mind of Skynet itself. For a film that was panned across the board, Genisys was a highly enjoyable film and I urge more people to give it a chance. |
After seeing countless reviews saying this is the worst film in the series, I have to admit that I ended up pleasantly surprised upon seeing it. This was a solid entry that crafted an intriguing tale and saw the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger as the titular T-800.Terminator Genisys is the sequel to the second film that we've been waiting for. Also, in case anyone was wondering, Terminator: Salvation is the worst sequel.
After sitting out the last movie, it was great to see Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise his role from the original films. He easily fell back into the role and is a huge reason for the films success. He is clearly having a lot of fun and shows us that may be old, but not obsolete. Emilia Clarke was pretty good as Sarah Connor. She presented the strong, independent heroine that we've grown to love to perfection. While I haven't been the biggest fan of Jai Courtney over the years, I was actually quite surprised by his general charisma he brought to the character. I hope he continues his upward swing. The humor was really well done, with the characters putting forth some truly hilarious jokes. Terminator Genisys surprised me quite a bit. It both cleans up plot threads from previous films and starts it own story in the process. Schwarzenneger seems to having a blast, the storyline is engaging, and there were several funny moments throughout. For fans of the franchise, this is the sequel we've been waiting for. |
