St. Vincent was considerably better than I expected. I had gone in thinking it was just another attempt at repeating the same broken formula. What I got was an honest comedy that dealt with the trials and tribulations of childhood and old age.
Bill Murray has yet to disappoint me and his role as Vincent was yet another hit. His chemistry with young Jaeden Lieberher was the heart and soul of this quirky film. I was equally impressed with Naomi Watts's impressive performance as Daka, the Russian prostitute. To be honest, I didn't know it was Naomi Watts until the end credits. I was pleasantly surprised at the charm and substance that St. Vincent delivered. It's not as funny as I had hoped, but the dramatic side of the film more than makes up for it. Apart from that, it's a great movie. |
