Richard Linklater’s Slacker popularized the term that so many of us use now when referencing something in pop culture. During Linklater’s debut film, we are passed on from character to character through each interaction we witness, never sticking with one for too long. The characters simply socialize about random things, and we are along for the ride. It’s known to be an inspiration for the wave of 90’s indie films about being young in America. And of course Linklater has always been a massive part of that genre all together. This film is now a part of the National Film Registry and developed on a budget of around 25 grand. It’s a true gem, an American classic as far as I’m concerned, and I hope you go watch it right now.
