Signs (2002)Written and Directed by M. Night Shyamalan
Starring Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Rory Culkin, Abigail Breslin, Cherry Jones, M. Night Shyamalan |
This movie is one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. Some of the visuals in this are absolutely terrifying and it's one of the few movies to make me scream. Signs was M. Night Shyamalan's last truly good film before his ego consumed his career like a supernova collapsing into itself. It's the most realistic depiction of an alien invasion ever filmed, showing each step from the crop circle directions to the strategic placement of lights in the sky and humanity's terrified reaction to it.
It's a criminally underrated film that deserves much more praise than it got. Of course, how can I review this film without talking about the chill-inducing Brazilian video scene? No matter how many times I watch that scene, I still get goosebumps or shortness of breath or both. It's easily the scariest scene in the movie. |
