If you ever wondered what would happen if you combined Dawn of the Dead with American Pie, look no further. Despite being a ridiculous film with very little semblance of plot or interesting characters, there's a certain wackiness that very nearly redeems the movie. It's like you don't even care that it sucks. You just kinda want to see where it goes. Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse is essentially just your typical teen sex comedy where the young nerd somehow ends up with the popular girl who is way out of his league. Except, this time there are zombies involved.

The cast is made up entirely of forgettable teen faces and celebrity cameos (though "celebrity" is stretching it a little). The trailers and promos for the film never promised anything less, which is why I was surprised by the massive critical backlash. What did you think you were going to see? The next great American zombie movie? Of course a movie called Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse is gonna be goofy and weird. You'd have to be an imbecile to expect anything else.

This film slipped through the cracks of last year's wide-releases simply because it's so stupid that people didn't bother to give it the time of day. However, if you want to sit back and give it a shot, you might find it's worth a chuckle or two. Personally, I never really liked sex comedies and find them to be a tremendous waste of time outside of preteens who can't get hold of pornography. Having said that, the added zombie element makes this film as unique as it can get and seems destined to be a cult favorite.
