Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was one of the weirdest films I've ever seen, but also very enjoyable. It's the only thing I've actually liked Michael Cera in, as his naivety and boyish charm fit the character of Scott Pilgrim very well. What's really strange about this film is the video game mentality, which gave the film a lot of its awesomeness but also a lot of its confusion.
The battle scenes were neat, but seemed to gloss over the fact that Scott is straight up murdering these dudes for quarters. I guess we're not supposed to dwell into that, but I can't help it sometimes. It was cool that Chris Evans was one of the exes, but I think he should have been the leader. Jason Schwartzman played the leader, but didn't have the same douchey charisma that Chris Evans had in the film. Still, Scott Pilgrim is a fun movie that is mindless enough to enjoy without overthinking it too much. |
