Saw is arguably one of the most important horror films of the past decade. It rejuvenated the horror genre as a whole and spawned one of the most profitable horror franchise of all time. It's a simple little horror film that is brilliantly written and features so many twists and turns to the point where anything could happen.
Cary Elwes and Leigh Whannell are the primary players and they do a decent job of expressing their terror and disbelief at their predicament. This film introduces us to the major players for the rest of the franchise, including the big bad Jigsaw, the serial killer with purpose. I love this franchise because of its ingenuity and its inventiveness with the various stories and plotlines. Definitely check this series out. |
Saw is one of the most iconic, and arguably important, horror of the last decade. It brought the horror genre back with a bite, created a whole new subgenre, and created one of the most profitable horror franchises of all time. It starts out with a simple plot of two men trapped in a bathroom and becomes increasingly more complex as it moves along. The twist in this film is one of the greatest in not just horror film history, but film history in general.
Cary Elwes and Leigh Whannell do a good job as the two leads, really selling the fear and confusion these two characters are going through. The rest of the cast is good as well. The score is one of the most original and recognizable theme songs ever created. I never get tired of hearing it. Finally, this film was the world's first introduction to horror icon, Jigsaw. This was an excellent horror film with a plot that requires your attention. A great start to an excellent horror series that wants to do one thing, play a game. |
