I feel like Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves could have been the definitive Robin Hood movie, if only they'd made some better casting choices. Kevin Costner isn't bad in the lead role, but he doesn't even try to attempt an English accent. He comes off sounding like Kevin Costner playing Robin Hood, instead of Robin Hood himself.
Also, for some reason, I don't particularly like Alan Rickman's performance as the Sheriff of Nottingham. He hams it up too much and turns what should be a fearsome villain into a caricature of one that just doesn't work. Both Morgan Freeman and Christian Slater were excellent, giving fantastic performances that definitely stuck out. Other than the casting issues, this film is quite entertaining and is very heartwarming. |
