9/10
This film was a phenomenal way to reboot a franchise that has been dwindling since the 1970's and was quickly snuffed out by Tim Burton back in 2001. This film erases all memory of Burton's travesty and gives us a fresh, badass look at what a modern Planet of the Apes franchise could be. Andy Serkis dominates as Caesar, the ape who sparks a revolution. Combined with a stellar supporting cast and incredible effects, this film has provided a glimpse at a new blockbuster franchise.

8/10
An excellent way to start a new franchise based off an already classic one. The story is well told and keeps a good, fun pace. James Franco does a good job as the human lead, playing a very sympathetic character who just wants to help his dad. The real star of the film is Caesar, played to perfection by Andy Serkis.

Even though you actually don't see him, he still pulls off a ton of believable emotions. The film also features a ton of really cool imagery that will stay in your head for a long time. A great beginning to the franchise that will please fans of the original and newcomers alike.
