Recasting the MCU: Part 9
By Austin Johnson
Part 9 of 12 here we are folks! Every one of these recast segments is dedicated to Chadwick Boseman and I’m happy to finally see one of Black Panther’s dopest allies Nakia get a go here. Let’s get to it…
5.) Dustin Hoffman as Alexander Pierce
Portrayed by Robert Redford in the MCU.
|
I honestly just want to replace Redford with another legend from his generation, so let’s go Dustin Hoffman, who also possessed a ton of star power. Redford was born in 1936 and Hoffman in 1937 and they were both born in California. Both legends have multiple Oscar nominations and both have been married multiple times. As I have personally gone back to watch films like The Sting and Kramer vs. Kramer, I don’t really know which actor I like better which is why it feels right to make this swap for Alex Pierce.

4.) Woody Harrelson as Yondu
Portrayed by Michael Rooker in the MCU.
|
I immediately thought of Woody Harrelson for Yondu. The dude has already proven he can be great in a massive scale film after dominating his performance in War for the Planet of the Apes. Hell, he ain’t bad as Haymitch in the Hunger Games films. Woody is 6 years younger than Michael Rooker, but he has an insanely jam packed resume. I’m kind of shocked the MCU didn’t snag Woody early on, because he could play plenty of comic booky villains. I think of his unpredictability in Out of the Furnace combined with his comedic timing in Kingpin.

3.) Harrison Ford as Ego
Portrayed by Kurt Russell in the MCU.
|
Let’s have some fun. So, Chris Pratt plays Star-Lord and I chose Adam Driver to take his place in part 5 of this recast. Ego is Star-Lord’s dad. Kurt fathering Pratt. Now, who is Adam Driver’s dad? Harrison motherfucking Ford, that’s who. We got a little Star Wars and MCU connection here, which is a Disney connection now I guess. Kurt Russell is one of my favorite 80’s actors and he simply has to be replaced with a certified badass like Ford. It can only be done this way.
|
2.) DeWanda Wise as Nakia
Portrayed by Lupita Nyong'o in the MCU.
|
Lupita is very difficult to replace due to the extreme amount of talent pouring out of her. This is going to be a bit of a wild card kind of swap, but I like the idea of giving some people a shoutout. DeWanda Wise is 36 and Lupita is 37 with a pretty crazy resume. Wise could hold her own in Wakanda as Nakia and it would be a role that could bolt her career to another level. She usually works in the TV world, so the MCU would be the first time a lot of people could see her in that kind of a creative space.

1.) Ewan McGregor as Vision
Portrayed by Paul Bettany in the MCU.
|
There are some actors who are just perfect for franchise films. Ewan McGregor is 100% a part of the top tier of guys who can fit into any franchise. Of course, he did the Obi-Wan Star Wars thing and then recently showed up in Birds of Prey as Black Mask, showcasing good and evil. Ewan was born in Scotland while Paul Bettany was born in England and they are both 49 years old right now. Paul is shining bright as we speak in WandaVision which makes me think about that show with this recast. So, Ewan McGregor as Vision and Alicia Vikander as Scarlet Witch… I haven’t watched the show at all, but I’m pretty sure that could work.
