Recasting the MCU: Part 10

By Austin Johnson
Picture
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier or WandaVision? For me, it’s tough because I was sort of in and out of WandaVision. My girlfriend is really into all things MCU, so she wants to watch all of the shows they’re putting out. I would catch myself on my phone quite a bit during WandaVision, but some moments were super cool. With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, I find myself just kind of locking in the whole way through. It has gotten me really excited to do Part 10 of this recast! Every one of these parts is dedicated to the legend, Chadwick Boseman. Wakanda Forever!

5.) Gael Garcia Bernal as Luis

Picture
Portrayed by Michael Peña in the MCU.
Michael Peña’s parents were born in Mexico, his father specifically in the Jalisco state. Gael Garcia Bernal also hails from Jalisco and would be a tremendous addition to any superhero film. Peña is 45 and Bernal is 42, and both dudes carry a very special set of comedic talents while also having the balls to hang with anyone on the big screen.

4.) Steve Buscemi as Phil Coulson

Picture
Portrayed by Clark Gregg in the MCU.
Initially I wanted Laurence Fishburne to replace Clark Gregg, but the MCU encyclopedia known as Connor Eyzaguirre reminded me that he appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp. He also said Clark Gregg’s Coulson seems a bit more mousy than what Fishburne would bring to the table. That’s totally fair, so the audible has been engaged and we will take Steve Buscemi to replace Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson. Steve is 63, while Clark is 59 but this is an obvious upgrade to one of our best character actors ever.

3.) Michael K. Williams as James Rhodes/War Machine

Picture
Portrayed by Terrence Howard & Don Cheadle in the MCU.
Don Cheadle is such a luxury to have in the MCU as War Machine. Let’s pick up Michael K. Williams to take his place. He isn’t as famous as Cheadle, but I believe he has a more interesting look for the superhero world. Michael K. has done some cool ass shit like play Omar in The Wire and Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire, but he has never gotten a monstrous franchise role like War Machine. I think he would crush it and gain a whole new fan base of people with ease.

2.) Halle Berry as Ancient One

Picture
Portrayed by Tilda Swinton in the MCU.
Tilda Swinton is so damn unique and tough to replace on a surface level. This swap has to be random and sort of ballsy in my opinion, so let’s grab Halle Berry who is 6 years younger than Swinton. She has been really solid here and there in her career but I do wish it would’ve gone slightly different for her. Tilda has worked with a ton of awesome filmmakers and she kinda brings the noise no matter what. Halle would have a lot of work to do but I believe in her and we got to give her another chance to do something really cool on a massive scale.

1.) Adam Sandler as Scott Lang/Ant-Man

Picture
Portrayed by Paul Rudd in the MCU.
I immediately started thinking about other Judd Apatow style actors like Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, and James Franco. Any of those guys would be a funny replacement for Paul Rudd, but then we can stretch even further and reach even higher with this recast. Paul Rudd is 52 and Adam Sandler is 54, who might be the most Apatow out of any actor I named. Sandler as Ant-Man is kind of a dream. Rudd is great and he doesn’t need to be swapped out, but Sandler would take the role to the next level in my opinion.
