Ben Stiller gave directing a go back in '94, adding to the influx of films about young people finding their way when the realization of them joining capitalistic America hits them. Our young group of characters in Reality Bites consists of Lelaina (Winona Ryder), Troy (Ethan Hawke), Vickie (Janeane Garofalo), Sammy (Steve Zahn), and Michael (Ben Stiller). There isn’t a tremendous amount of character development, but they are all introduced so well that we don’t need serious clarification for all the actions they take. A choice involving love has to be made by our main character, and it is one that will be talked about by film fans forever.
