7/10
The Paranormal Activity films have been declining in quality since the third entry, which is why I was hesitant to give this one a try. I was pleasantly surprised at how freaky and original this film was. I found the characters much more interesting than anybody from the original series, and the plot was a lot more engaging. Plus, the ending was incredibly shocking and an awesome throwback to the first film. It did have some weak points, though. It does take a while to really get going. Other than that, I liked it.

While I wasn't overly impressed at all with the last entry in this horror franchise, this one really turned it around and showed there is still some life left in the Paranormal Activity franchise. The movie really embraced  a more Latino flavor to the premise, which really helped it feel more original. Even though it is a spin-off, it did an excellent job of tying all the characters and events from the past films into this one.

Also, the ending is one of the greatest endings I've seen in a horror franchise and a real treat for the fans. The movie does move a little slow at first like the rest, but I ultimately didn't mind because the characters were interesting. This is a both a great horror movie and a great entry in today's top horror franchise.
