Lone Survivor is one of the most intense and realistic war films in recent years. It sports one of Mark Wahlberg's best performances and an all-star cast of rarely seen character actors like Ben Foster and Eric Bana, as well as brilliantly retells the story of Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell.
In 2005, Luttrell and his team were ambushed by enemy fire in Afghanistan and were forced to fight an army of Taliban soldiers while attempting to contact air support. Luttrell was the only survivor of the mission and this is his valiant story. Wahlberg digs deep to access his inner actor while portraying Luttrell, in a performance that proves he belongs among the modern greats. Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, and Ben Foster portray his brave comrades and they all deliver top notch performances. Lone Survivor is a masterfully filmed and beautifully choreographed war film that reminds all of us what the American soldiers have sacrificed in this terrible war. Marcus Luttrell is one of the few lucky survivors who have emerged alive from the depths of Hell, but there are thousands that were left behind. This film sheds a light on those who did not survive and for that, it deserves to stand among the classics. |
Lone Survivor has already joined the ranks of greatest war films ever made. It's an intense, brilliantly acted film that shows the true horrors of war and the brave soldiers that fight it every day. The actors do a phenomenal job of not only bringing these characters to life, but also paying huge respect to the real life men who lost their lives on that fateful day.
The film tells the real life story of a group of Navy Seals who are relentlessly pursued by a group of Taliban after a mission goes wrong. The intensity of the pursuit and the physical pain these guys go through creates one of the most riveting, exciting war movies in recent years. A particular sequence that stands out is when they soldiers have to jump off a cliff to get away from their pursuers. The camera's way of making this look as painfully as it more than likely was does a great job of really feeling for the soldiers' struggle. Mark Wahlberg delivers one of his best performances as Marcus Luttrell, the lone survivor of the film. Ben Foster, Emile Hirsch, and Taylor Kitsch also deliver stellar performances as his comrades fighting for their very lives. This is a well executed war film that not only delivers some seriously intense action scenes, but shows what soldiers have suffered in times of war. I also respect that the film didn't completely write off the entire nation of Afghanistan as a place filled with terrorist, but shows that there are just as many good, honest folk. The actors rise to the occasion and the characters their due respect. Lone Survivor is a great, intense movie that fans of the war genre will most certainly love. |
