The Flashpoint Paradox is one of the best animated adventures that DC Comics has ever released. The bar was set with this film, which sees the Flash embark on a journey through an alternate war-torn world where Aquaman and Wonder Woman are vicious tyrants and the Justice League was never founded. It's awesome to see how these iconic characters would fare if their lives were turned upside down, particularly what happened to Batman. Longtime DC Comics fans will absolutely adore this film.
The main villain this time around is Professor Zoom, archenemy of the Flash. We're led to believe that he is the one responsible for this hellish new earth and it's up to the Flash to set things right. The voice talent was perfect, with Justin Chambers and Kevin McKidd standing out as the Flash and the alternate Batman respectively. The alternate story of Batman was incredibly tragic, with Bruce Wayne being the one who was gunned down in the alleyway. His father Thomas Wayne, stricken with anger, became Batman, while his mother Martha Wayne went insane with grief and became the Joker. Seeing a brilliant retelling of such a famous origin story gave me goosebumps and won me over instantly. Superman was captured by the government, Hal Jordan never became the Green Lantern, Captain Cold is a good guy now, and Deathstroke and Lex Luthor are government agents. It's the constant appearances from my favorite comic characters that kept me smiling at the screen for the entirety of the film. It's got an excitingly original story and will no doubt be considerably more awesome than any live action Justice League film, simply because of how many risks they can take. I always enjoy DC's animated films and The Flashpoint Paradox ranks among the best. |
