Joe Dirt (2001)Directed by Dennie Gordon
Written by David Spade and Fred Wolf Starring David Spade, Dennis Miller, Brittany Daniel, Adam Beach, Christopher Walken, Jaime Pressly, Kid Rock |
Everything about this movie should suck. It's got David Spade starring as a white trash idiot and it's produced by Happy Madison. Yet, for some bizarre reason, Joe Dirt is one of the most heartfelt and original comedies of the decade.
Surprisingly, David Spade actually delivers a believable and funny performance as the eponymous Joe Dirt. Apart from the gross-out humor, the film isn't bad. It's got a great supporting cast, including Christopher Walken and Dennis Miller. Some of the humor is a bit lowbrow, but let's be honest here. We're not watching Joe Dirt for the intellectual stimulation, are we? Apart from the comedy, there is also an element of drama. Joe's search for his parents actually hits home and makes you care about the character's journey. Combined with a killer rock and roll soundtrack, there's actually a lot to like about Joe Dirt. |
