It's hard not to love a movie that is essentially nothing more than Jason Voorhees in space. It's campy as hell and poorly acted, but who cares? Compared to Jason Goes to Hell, it's a work of art. This Jason is extremely terrifying and seems more unstoppable than ever, and this is before he even gets his nanotech upgrade. After that, stop the presses boys and girls, Jason Voorhees is finally invincible.
The various characters on the ship all seem interchangeable and forgettable, mainly because they are just like every other band of horny teens Jason has ever gone after. Only this time, they're in space. I will give props for the awesome kill scenes, mainly the liquid nitrogen head-bash. The person who wrote that kill deserves an award. The film is unfortunately riddled with extremely poor CGI that does tend to take away from Jason X's entertainment factor, but it makes up for it with everything else. I still enjoy watching Jason X and will always hold it in high esteem, even though it's pretty ridiculous. |
The idea to send Jason Voorhees into space may have seemed like a terrible idea, but it actually turned out really well. The movie is incredibly cheesy and full of bad actors, yet I still had a lot of fun with this entry. It was good to see the man himself, Jason Voorhees, back and badder than ever. This would be Kane Hodder's final appearance in the role. He dominates every scene he's in, showing us why he has been the best actor to portray Jason. He also makes sure to leave us with some extremely inventive kills. The best examples being the 'screwed' death and one involving liquid nitrogen. Bravo Mr. Voorhees, bravo.
I also found the Uber Jason thing to be ridiculously awesome and helped make him even more unstoppable. For all the horror movie fans, don't miss the cameo from one of the legends himself, David Cronenberg. It's beyond cool. That doesn't mean it was a perfect Friday the 13th film, though. I could live with the glaringly bad CGI that is present in the film. Also, the space marines, or whatever they were called, weren't exactly the most well thought out aspect to the movie. An incredibly cheesy, yet fun, entry in the franchise. I personally can't get enough of Jason in space. |
