Insomnia (2002)Directed by Christopher Nolan
Written by Hillary Seitz Starring Al Pacino, Robin Williams, Hilary Swank, Martin Donovan, Maura Tierney, Nicky Katt, Paul Dooley Remake of 1997's Insomnia |
Insomnia was a brilliant twist on the classic crime-drama formula and featured some great performances that really made this a solid film. The film makes you think it's going one way but then becomes almost an entirely different movie after one event changes everything.
Al Pacino gave one of his best performances in years, staying at his rare pace between calm and HOO-AH! He gave a believable performance as a seasoned cop with a bad secret. Robin Williams was incredibly creepy, playing the sadistic Walter Finch in such a way that makes your skin crawl with every scene. It was so far out of his wheelhouse and was a great change of pace for such an iconic comedian. With a first-rate cast and a hell of a director, Insomnia was definitely one of the best American remakes of a foreign film I've ever seen. The story is compelling and will keep you interested until the very end, because you really have to find out who survives and who gets theirs. |
