This was the point in the franchise where it stopped being about kids doing magic and became good vs. evil. Apart from the final two, it's the best adaptation of Rowling's novels so far and has some of the most incredible moments in the whole franchise, most notably being of course the return of Lord Voldemort.
Ralph Fiennes dominates the entire movie in his brief appearance as the Dark Lord and gives us a taste of things to come. I also thoroughly enjoyed Brendan Gleeson and David Tennant in their respective roles as Mad-Eye Moody and Barty Crouch Jr. The twist involving certain characters is quite brilliant, as it makes complete sense and really adds to the idea that Hogwarts is no longer safe for Harry Potter. The tone of this film feels quite different from the first three, which is probably due to yet another change in director, but it feels like something more. Maybe its the slight air of maturity starting to grow around the three stars. Maybe its the fact that the return of the Lord Voldemort sucked all the happiness out of this franchise (in a good way) and paved the way for the beginning of the end. Yeah, that's probably it. |
While I will admit that this one is probably my least favorite in the franchise, this is still a great movie and another solid installment in the franchise. The storyline was pretty good, with the Goblet of Fire tournament being a lot of fun to watch. It was also cool to see some other schools that exist in this magical world. However, I feel the tournament storyline is the least threatening one compared to the other films' stories.
Speaking of threatening, Ralph Fiennes did a phenomenal job as Lord Voldemort, perfectly playing him as the ultimate dark wizard that he is. He was effectively scary and everything I imagined the character to be from the books. Even though this one is my least favorite in the franchise, I still find a lot to like about it and and it still got me pumped of the next film. |
