Halloween: The Curse

Forget Busta Rhymes. Forget Rob Zombie. Forget Silver Shamrock. This is without a doubt the worst Halloween movie ever made. Exploring the origins of Michael's rage was a bad idea from the start. Less is always more, especially when it comes to horror. This whole Cult of Thorn bullshit never makes any sense and only serves to further convolute an already screwed-up continuity. All the behind-the-scenes bickering led to a film that exists in several fairly incomplete versions. This review is based off the Producer's Cut that was released in 2014.
It's been six years since Michael Myers vanished from a jail cell, and in that time, his niece Jamie has been kidnapped and impregnated by an evil cult; the same cult that controls Michael's actions. Dr. Loomis is long-retired, but comes back to take out Michael again when he resurfaces. Most of the film is really boring, with Michael just once again taking the piss out of a bunch of dipshit teenagers. It's his go-to plan. The cult stuff never works, and only makes this more confusing. In a franchise that has changed hands more than a joint at a reggae concert, this film holds the high honor of being the absolute worst entry. Michael Myers deserves better as a character, and thankfully this would not be the end for him. But it very well could've been. |
