I really enjoyed Gremlins for the most part, even though the film has become quite dated. The creature designs for the Gremlins themselves are still astonishingly realistic and Gizmo the Mogwai is still cute as a button. I also love the delightfully creepy score by Jerry Goldsmith. My only problem with the film is the painfully outdated 80's references.
There's an entire scene near the end of the film that completely diminishes the Gremlins' entire fear factor. They are all in a bar and each one of them is dressed as some person or running joke from the 80's, which I'm sure was hysterical at the time but it has not grown well. Still, despite this one scene, the film is quite entertaining. |
