Everyone has secrets. Parts of ourselves we keep hidden from family, friends, coworkers, and even the world at large. One of the great things about the emergence of the internet was bringing people together that felt they were the only ones who thought/lived a certain way. For the uninitiated, furries are a fetishistic subculture that centers on people dressing as anthropomorphic animals (foxes, raccoons, dogs, etc). I became aware of this phenomena in college and thought it to be very weird/funny and incredibly fascinating. The people you meet in this documentary range from very "normal" to the downright bizarre. Case in point, there's a man who is seeking to change his legal name to Boomer the Dog, I shit you not. Most of these people are quite harmless and use their fetish as a means of escapism from their normal lives. You get their stories and the journey each person took that lead them to the community that exists online and at conventions.
AnthroCon is the event we're shown where furries gather to dance, drink, and buy furries related wares. For the most part, it's presented in a pleasant light and then we meet a vice president by the name of Uncle Kage. This guy is a total control freak whi only wants furries to exist according to his ideas and anyone else who goes against him is shamed and regarded as a pariah. There are some more titillating aspects that I chose not to mention because they aren't at the heart of this documentary. And in case you've been screaming at the screen in furious curiosity: Yes, some furries do engage in consensual sex with each other.
Probably my favorite moment was being introduced to a man who's profession is, brace yourself, cocksmith. You read that right, it's not a typo. Overall, I really enjoyed this documentary as it shined a little more light on something I had only base knowledge of. If you're itching for something different and are fascinated by the weird things people are into, take a walk on the wild side. Who knows, maybe you'll find your inner animal.
