Friday the 13th Part VI:
|
Jason Lives is a highly entertaining entry in the Friday the 13th franchise and is easily the best in the series. The opening sequence alone was incredibly exciting, with Jason rising from the grave and parodying the James Bond franchise's gun barrel sequence. However, I continue to be annoyed by the extreme lack of continuity between each film. For example, Tommy Jarvis is no longer clinically insane and there is no explanation for the complete lapse in character development that we really could have used, if only for a bridge.
Jason Lives also has some of the most inventive death scenes, including one where he bends another man in half backwards. This entry also started to include characters I actually started to care about, like Megan Garris (Tommy's love interest) who is fun to watch and an interesting character. There's an air of humor about this film that makes it to entertaining and watchable. I definitely enjoyed it. |
This is my personal favorite Friday the 13th film in the entire franchise. Jason Lives is the definition of a fan service sequel that rewards fans of not only this particular franchise, but the horror genre as a whole. The film serves as the conclusion of the Tommy Jarvis trilogy, ending it on an incredibly high note. Thom Matthews does a great job in the role as the third actor to portray Tommy. He is always the one I think of in relation to the character. The film also marked the beginning of "Zombie Jason," making him even more of an unstoppable killing machine.
This entry also proved to be the most fun one in the entire franchise. The use of black humor and numerous references to horror films was a nice touch. Also, you can never go wrong with having Alice Cooper in your soundtrack. The kills were a major step up from the previous film and what I expect from a movie starring Jason Voorhees. The best entry in the entire franchise that didn't take itself too seriously. Definitely my favorite entry. |
