As is very apparent with all the streaming services and movie theaters, a lot of movies come out in one year alone. So, it’s fairly common for some to be released with little attention paid to them upon initial release. They come and go with seemingly no one having paid attention. But, whether it be a strong cult following or word of mouth, some of these films end up having a second life on the home video/streaming market. This is where we seem to find Evolution. A film which I remember seeing once on TV as a kid and not really thinking much of it. But, my good friend Connor has spent years reminding me of a monster in this film which terrified him as a kid. So, thanks to this website and the podcast, here I am to finally watch it, see the infamous scene, and find out how I feel about the movie.
Right off the bat, this is a very fun movie. See, this is one of those film which doesn’t try to lay some convoluted plot on you and invest in deep characters. Instead, its puts together a very likable cast mixed with a simple story to give the audience a good time. Something our three leads in Orlando Jones, David Duchovny, and Seann William Scott commit to giving us. All three have proven to be entertaining in their own works, but they really seem to be having a ball here as they play great off each other. As for the scene which terrified Connor, I’ll give him credit because those blue monkeys turn this movie into a straight up horror film for a quick moment. Last thing I want to point out is the amazing amount of sexual humor and innuendo in an otherwise family friendly picture. This type of humor really doesn’t bother me, but it just comes off weird when everything else is suitable to watch with kids. For the most part, Evolution is a really fun time at the movies. The story is simple, it moves at a nice pace, and the actors seem to be having a good time. If you’re looking for something different to watch with the family, you can’t go wrong here. Just keep in mind the sexual humor and innuendo for the younger ones in the family. And, most importantly, watch out for those blue monkeys. |
Evolution is a hidden gem that not many people know about. It's a hilarious comedy with an original idea that is very intriguing and it also has a solid cast led by Agent Mulder himself, David Duchovny.
Also, Evolution was the first movie that ever actually terrified me beyond belief, specifically at the Blue Monkey that has NO PLACE in a comedy. The creature effects on this thing were astounding, as it gave me nightmares for as long as I can remember. If you can get past the nightmare inducing mutant gorilla, the film is very fun and deserves a lot more attention. |
