I thought that Equilibrium was a solid action flick with an original premise that worked as both a great action film and a great sci-fi film. Driven by an epic performance from Christian Bale, this dystopian romp will leave you stunned.
The idea of banning all emotion is interesting and allows a lot of room for interpretation, which is what makes the film work on so many levels. It has the epic "gun-fu" scenes, but it also has the slightly futuristic scenes, which look like they could realistically occur in the near future. The idea of a totalitarian government in the future has been done many times, but this is one of the few times that I've seen it work in a realistic manner. Now for the action scenes. The fight choreography was astonishing, particularly the climax where Bale's character Preston used a samurai sword to mow down a dozen or so commandos. I'm glad this film turned out to be worth my time and I definitely recommend it. |
