This was a great classic film that tells a simple story while it explores deep themes like individuality and freedom. It also gives a very interesting light on the counterculture movement of the 1960s. Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper are exceptional in their respective roles. Fonda does great as the more levelheaded of the two. Hopper also does great as the more over the top, stoner type. Jack Nicholson proves to be the standout in a supporting role as a drunk lawyer who joins them on their journey.
The film does a very effective, and cool, transitioning effect throughout that is now considered groundbreaking for its time. A movie that, while it may seem simple, actually explores a lot of interesting themes and will forever be considered a classic. |
