This was actually a pretty solid movie that featured equal doses action, adventure, and a little romance. The plot was very engaging, even though there were some elements that seemed to almost copy other YA movies. The movie also presented some really good themes like individuality and free will that were handled very nicely.
The performances were excellent across the board. Shailene Woodley was great in the lead role, delivering a believable performance. Theo James was also excellent as Four, a mysterious character who you learn more about as the movie progresses. Kate Winslet was great as the villain. While the film did seem to copy elements from other movies of it's kind, it was still a lot of fun and a solid beginning to this franchise. I am looking forward to the second movie. |
