They say it isn't possible to capture lightning in a bottle twice. Obviously, whoever said that has yet to see Deadpool 2. This movie had an impossible standard to live up to, yet it excelled in every way possible and delivered one of the funniest, most action-packed blockbusters of the year. With a significant budget increase, the level of crazy s**t that the filmmakers were allowed to do went up tenfold. It's got a set-up for the X-Force, a number of awesome cameos, and arguably the most ingenious post-credits scene in comic book movie history.
Ryan Reynolds continues to prove that he is the only actor worthy to wear the bullet-riddled spandex of Deadpool. His charm, wit, and likability all go a long way towards making Deadpool the cinematic anti-hero that we all root for. Alongside him is Josh Brolin in his second superhero outing of the year. His turn as Cable is the perfect foil for Reynolds's Deadpool, and makes for some hilarious interactions. On top of that, there's the return of Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, as well as newcomers Domino and Russell, and the long-awaited return of Marvel favorite Juggernaut. It's impossible to live up to the perfection of the first movie, but this sequel comes extremely close, and in some ways, it even surpasses its predecessor. Deadpool 2 doubles down on the laughs, the action sequences, and the comic references to ensure a memorable, epic sequel that gives the inevitable third film and X-Force spin-off a hell of a thing to top. In the meantime, I think we can all agree that the cinematic rep of Deadpool has been restored and the character is here to stay. |
