Daredevil is one of the few bad comic book movies that is at least watchable. Ben Affleck was clearly the wrong person to play such an iconic character, but the film isn't nearly as bad as the critics said it was back in 2003. Having said that, the film also has not aged well.
The bad early-2000's rock and the poor CGI make Daredevil extremely dated. The film also does treat Daredevil like a carbon copy of Batman, with the film seriously lacking in originality. Still, I did enjoy Michael Clarke Duncan and Colin Farrell's respective performances as Kingpin and Bullseye. Jon Favreau made for a good comic relief as Foggy Nelson, and Joe Pantoliano was great as Ben Urich. It was Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner who I felt were miscast as Daredevil and Elektra. Hopefully, Mark Steven Johnson is never allowed to tarnish another superhero movie (He is also responsible for the less-than-great Ghost Rider film). Daredevil is a poor depiction of a beloved comic book character, but the film has a few saving graces in its supporting cast. Still, it's best to avoid this one. |
