Before I saw Casino Royale, I believed that Sean Connery was the greatest Bond. Now, I know that he has heavy competition. Daniel Craig played an awesome Bond in his introductory film, giving me chills for all coming performances. He plays 007 the way he was meant to be played: A cold, remorseless killer with a suave, debonair exterior.
This film brought the Bond franchise back to the quality of the classics, showing us that class was not dead and these films didn't have to be ridiculous to succeed in the modern era. Casino Royale also features stellar performances by Eva Green and Mads Mikkelsen, giving us a solid Bond girl and villain. The bar for the modern Bond film was set high by this film, and Daniel Craig has proven that he has what it takes to restore this franchise to its former glory. So far, I still consider Casino Royale to be Craig's best film. It has everything a good Bond film needs. A memorable lead actress, a strong villain, a catchy theme song (Thank you, Chris Cornell), and the gritty realism that turns James Bond from a nigh invincible one-liner machine to a vulnerable government agent forced to make life or death decisions on the fly. Daniel Craig is the man to give us the Bond we deserve and in this film, he shows us what he can do. |
For a long time, Sean Connery was the best James Bond that know one ever came close to topping. Well, it looks like he has some competition now. Daniel Craig plays James Bond like this was the role he was alway meant to play. He exudes the suave, debonair part of the character like no one else. He also plays the cold, remorseless killer part to perfection. Basically, Daniel Craig is Bond. James Bond.
The film dropped the more campy tone of the previous films and went for a more gritty, realistic tone. This proved to be a great decision as it gave us a more relatable Bond. Eva Green and Mads Mikkelsen were also excellent in their roles as the Bond girl and villain, respectively. The bar has been raised for the franchise once again and I can't imagine anyone else taking over the role of Bond after Daniel Craig leaves. |
