Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery is a hilarious movie that expertly pokes fun at the spy genre, specifically the early James Bond films. It is filled with outrageous gags and hilarious one-liners. Mike Myers is in top form playing both the title character and his nemesis, Dr. Evil. I have yet to see any other movie specifically spoof the Bond films so well.
The plot does a great job at not only poking fun at the spy genre in general, but also the 1960's lifestyle. As many know, the first James Bond film came out in the early 60s, hence why the film starts off in that decade. This leads to several great gags involving Austin Powers promiscuity and phrasing of words. While the plot itself is hilarious, the cast are just as game. Mike Myers has never been better in his portrayal of both Austin Powers and Dr. Evil. He makes both characters an immense joy to watch and equally hilarious. Seth Green also gives a funny performance playing the son of Dr. Evil. The interactions between him and Myers are always funny to watch. International Man of Mystery install one of the best spoofs of the James Bond franchise. It lampoons everything from the time period, the signature Bond girls and their ludicrous names, and the main character himself. This movie never fails to make me laugh. |
