Well, it looks like I have a new holiday favorite. I remember first hearing about this movie and being mildly curious. It was a Christmas themed zombie musical comedy. While I quite enjoy holiday set and more humorous horror films, I’m not the biggest fan of musicals and zombies have slightly worn themselves out. But my curiosity grew as I heard more and more positive things while it was on the festival circuit. Eventually, my curiosity turned into full blown anticipation to see what all the fuss was about. So, upon seeing it had come to Amazon Prime, I quickly set aside time to finally view this film. Later, cue to a huge smile on my face throughout the duration of the film and bopping my head along to every song. Anna and the Apocalypse is one of the biggest surprises and most fun movies I’ve experienced. I’ll go into more detail, but right off the bat, you owe it to yourself to see this wonderful film.
I don’t even know where to begin with my praise. Let’s start by tackling each category this film falls under. First, the horror. The zombies look particularly gruesome and the gore effects are bloody. Like they should be. The film also features several memorable moments of zombie carnage, both to and from the zombies. Next, the comedy. The cast, who are all wonderful, fully commits to their parts. Each one of them have several funny moments and play well off each other. Finally, the musical aspect. Like I said before, I’ve never really been one for musicals. But, I got to say, I really enjoyed the songs in this one. Every single one is catchy and so much fun to listen to. My personal favorite being “Not a Hollywood Ending.” I’m definitely going to be looking this soundtrack up later. Anna and the Apocalypse is one of the most unexpected, fun times I’ve had watching a movie. I’m actually mad it took me so long to see this. A mashup of genres which shouldn’t work, but they somehow do. A cast completely up for the task. All of the songs being catchy and without a single weak link. If you’ve been cautious about this movie, I urge you to go watch it as soon as possible. You won’t regret it. It’s definitely getting added to my Christmas horror rotation. |
