American Honey is an epic drama about a group of young adults that travel throughout the United States to sell magazines, party hard, and run from their past. We are with Star (Sasha Lane) for the entirety of the film as she is the newest member of the sales crew. Star has a pretty shitty home life, so she joins the crew after seeing them dancing to Rihanna at a grocery store.

Krystal (Keough) and Jake (LaBeouf) are the undisputed leaders of the crew. Of course, Star and Jake have an interest in one another which doesn’t float well with Krystal. The rest of the cast is a bunch of no names that haven’t really been in anything. That’s great for this film, because all of the characters are runaways and outcasts. Andrea Arnold has worked on various television shows since American Honey was released, but I hope to see her find some of this magic again soon. She gave Sasha Lane a chance to be the star and she fucking killed it! I know Shia has an odd reputation, but I find him to be a wonderful performer and this just may be his finest role. But we will see about that after Honey Boy comes out this November…
